Beloved in Christ,
I greet you in the sweet name of the Lord Jesus Christ!
An aquatic bird, called Cormorant, was catching and eating fish by hovering over the surface of the water, as it was its habit. Once it happened to catch an eel, a fish shaped like a long snake, and it tried to swallow it. The fish clung around the neck of the bird. The bird couldn’t swallow it. The bird couldn’t get loose from the grip of the eel and finally died. That bird would have eaten such fish many times earlier, but this time it cost its life.
A sinful life is like that. You may be playing with sin. You might think that it is easy to give it up at any time and that it can do no harm to you. But in the end, it clings to you and might cost your life. I know a friend who began to drink liquor. In the beginning, he used to say, “I know my limit.” As it became a habit, he couldn’t stop it within a limit. It overcame him, and he got addicted to it and was under its control.
Your sin will hound you out. It might appear to be harmless in the early days, like anger or bitterness. The Bible compares it with leaven. A small lump of leaven would ferment the entire dough. We should be cautious about sin and run away from it.
The Lord Jesus Christ has all the power to redeem you from sin. There is power in His blood. Only believe. “. . . and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). If we confess our sins to Him, He will forgive us, cleanse us, and set us free from the slavery of sin.
