“Wait on the LORD, and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land ...”

Dearly beloved in Christ,
I greet you in the sweet name of the Lord Jesus Christ. 
The Lord Jesus Christ is so loving that He exalts you in all places and at all times. Today let us examine what we should do for us to be exalted by the Lord. Let me share with you how and whom He exalts and also over whom.
The Lord exalts a person. This is a truth and it will happen. You may have a low estimate of your self. You may think that you are poor, lowly in birth, with no talents, with no one in your family educated to support you or guide you. But the Lord who exalts has all power and authority. He will exalt you more than what you think in a significant way.
I)  EXALTATION OVER WHAT?
1. Sets You upon a Rock
“For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.” Psalm 27:5
If you are set on the rock of Jesus Christ, it is an exalted life in Christ. Many desire to be exalted by the Lord. But they are not able to attain that state. In Psalm 40:2 David says, “He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.” Rock symbolizes a strong foundation which is not slippery. It is a life of stability in living a perfect life in Christ. You would not stumble and fall again and again. This is a blessed spiritual state.
Beloved in Christ, miry clay symbolizes a life of sin and instability. You will not be able to stand with your head held high. It is a life of shame which everyone hates. You may do things the Lord detests intentionally and purposely. But the Lord wants to deliver you from this miry clay as He loves you. He alone can lift you up from the gates of death (Psalm 9:13) and draw you out of many waters. (Psalm 18:16). 
Lifting you up, He will set you on a rock. It is a great blessing. It is also a life well protected. Isaiah 33:16 says, “He will dwell on high; his place of defence will be the fortress of rocks; Bread will be given him, his water will be sure.” He will make you stand. “He would have fed them also with the finest of wheat; and with honey from the rock I would have satisfied you” (Psalm 81:16). ‘Honey from the rock’ refers to the word of God. It is described as “Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb” (Psalm 19:10). 
With these words of promise and comfort, He will provide you a blessed life that would satisfy you. It is His doing. He does that out of love for you. He will make you stand on a rock. No harm will befall you. He will hide you and protect you from all the wicked deeds of the enemy and from witchcraft practised against you. That is how He sets you on a rock.
2. Above All Nations
“The LORD is high above all nations, His glory above the heavens.” Psalm 113:4
The Lord is high and has sway over all nations. He will set you above all nations. You will be fed by people you do not know. They will protect you. That is His power. While travelling abroad in nations where I do not know their language and culture, the Lord helps so that I can understand His love and protection in those places. Whatever be the place, He exalts us before them. He is high and sets you high. You will be blessed in this way. He is among us to deliver us and exalt us.
3. Among Your Enemies
“And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.” Psalm 27:6
He will exalt you in the midst of enemies you may not discern. 
Beloved in Christ, many a time we fail to recognize the enemies who surround us. You may think that there is no need for them to be enemies. Why should they be? The Bible says, “A fire goes before Him, and burns up His enemies round about.” (Psalm 97:3). Not only does He burn up the enemies, but also exalts us among them. Today He will exalt you and set you on a rock above many nations and in the midst of people of jealousy.
4. In Your Work Place
“Now within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your place, and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand according to the former manner, when you were his butler.” Genesis 40:13
“Now it came to pass on the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants; and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.” Genesis 40:20
Joseph was unjustly accused and was imprisoned. But the Lord revealed to him the meaning of the dream of the butler. Through that he was exalted. In that prison, He gave Joseph talents, wisdom and gift of interpretation to enable him to have access to the king’s palace. It was God’s design to have the king’s butler there in the prison so that he could talk about Joseph to the king. Thus he was exalted.
Dear Brother / Sister, have you lost your promotion, or hike in salary in your workplace? Has someone taken your place? Have you been falsely accused and has the real culprit been rewarded? Do not be dismayed? Are you discouraged? Do not worry. The One who exalts you still lives.
II) WHOM WILL HE EXALT?
1. The Lowly Placed
“He raises the poor out of the dust, and lifts the needy out of the ash heap” Psalm 113:7
Yes, He raises the poor out of the dust. This is indeed an astonishing thing. He is such a loving God.
Once I was invited to minister at the time of Christmas. Another man of God had also come there to minister. I was astounded by his testimony. I could understand how the Lord God can transform a man and exalt him.
His parents were very poor. In those days they had been affected by leprosy. At one time they had to beg. He was the only son. He could study upto the fifth standard only. They sent him to work in a Christian family. That family had taught him about Jesus Christ. He began to love the Bible. He could read and write. So he learnt a lot. Then the Lord began to exalt him. That Christian family went to Singapore. There he learnt to speak English also. The Lord helped him to search the scriptures in English also. His life completely changed. He could teach the truth with clarity. He thus became a good Bible scholar and teacher. He was appointed as a teacher in a Bible college in Singapore itself. Not only that, he travelled to various countries to teach in Bible colleges.
He was born in a poor family. But the Lord exalted him. The Lord who exalts from the dust is still alive. You may be living in the dust with no one to love you. Your spouse might have forsaken you. Your parents might have discarded you. You may be like a forlorn sojourner. Are you so? The Lord Jesus Christ loves you and He is alive. He will not forsake you. He is faithful to exalt you from your pitiable state.
2. Those Who Believe His Name
“If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.” Daniel 3:17
The Lord will exalt anyone who has faith in His name. Here we read about three youngsters who had enormous faith in the Lord. They were united in their faith. They did not obey the command of the king of the land and refused to worship an idol put up by him. They replied the king that their God whom they worshipped had the power to deliver from the hand of the king. They stood by their faith and the king was angered. The infuriated king asked his men to increase the heat of the burning furnace seven times. Then they were thrown into the fire. What happened? They were bound and thrown into the burning furnace. Those who bound them and threw them were seared and burnt by the fire. But the fire could do no harm to these three young men. On the other hand, they were roaming around in the fire along with the presence of God. 
The king could not make out anything. He put only three persons there. But he saw four persons freely roving. He was gripped with fear and asked them to come out. No harm was seen in their bodies.
How is your faith? Even if death would come, they were not afraid. In that dreadful situation, they staunchly believed in the Lord and the Lord delivered them and exalted them.
3. The Humble 
“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” James 4:10
The Lord lifts those who humble themselves before the Lord. There are many persons who boast about themselves. While ministering abroad, a family insisted on taking a family photo with me. Because they pestered me I also accepted the suggestion. Then they sent a copy of the photo to me. What astounded me was the way they kept their fingers in the photo to make their rings so visible. Why this photo? To show that they had rings on all fingers in their hands? On seeing it, my son sarcastically commented that they could have one ring on the thumb too. If God had given them one more finger in the hand, they would have added one more. That photo reflected that they were rich and indicated that they had the thought that they had everything.
Dear Brother / Sister, what is our state of the mind before the Lord? Do you think that you are educated, rich, beautiful, or highly placed? The Bible teaches us, “And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Matt. 23:12).
He exalts those who humble themselves. Jesus Christ humbled Himself and took the form of man. He who rode on a donkey is glorious. He can exalt anyone. You may be humiliated in your place of work. You may not be given a job suitable to your qualification and may be asked to do low level jobs to subject you to humiliation. You may be depressed because of the way you are treated by the higher officials. You may be dishonoured or ignored. The Lord who knows your heart and state wants to exalt you. Jesus Christ who humbled Himself in the form of man loves those who are humble. 
The Lord who knows your pitiable state wants to exalt you today. Hannah praises the Lord saying, “He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the ash heap, to set them among princes and make them inherit the throne of glory” (1 Sam. 2:8). He remains the same today. 
4. The Meek
“The LORD lifts up the humble; He casts the wicked down to the ground.” Psalm 147:6 
Meekness is very much needed in life. Those who have this quality are exalted. Psalm 37:11 says, “But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” Gentleness is one of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. But today we find people who claim to have been filled with the Holy Spirit call their own children “You devil; you dog”. They do not possess the love of Christ. It is a deceitful spirit with no love. They claim to have been anointed and speak in tongues or even prophesy. If you do not possess the love of Christ, and the fruit of the Spirit like gentleness and self-control, then speaking in tongues and prophesying would be acts of a deceitful spirit. Today in Christianity there are many who claim to have grown spiritually and have been blessed but lack in the qualities of love.
Dearly beloved in Christ, without meekness, you are a humbug leading a life of hypocrisy. If you are really a meek person, you are sure to be exalted because the Lord God loves such a person. He would supply blessings on a daily basis to such people. 
5. Those who wait on the Lord
“Wait on the LORD, and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.” Psalm 37:34
You should wait for the Lord to act. You should adopt His ways. You should commit today to walk in His way. Then the Lord God will bless you and exalt you. You will be exalted to inherit the earth. The One who makes you to inherit blessings lives even today. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Will you commit your life to walk in the path of this glorious God? If you fear the Lord and walk in His ways, you will be blessed. You will see the life of Jerusalem. You will see the life of your children and your children’s children. You would have goodness and mercy abundantly.
He exalts those who are poor, those who are delivered, those who are humble and meek and those who wait on the Lord. The Lord lives today. 
Accept Jesus Christ as your Shepherd whole-heartedly and walk following Him. If you do that, He will bless you, exalt you and crown you with good things.
