“...O Lord, heal me...”

                                                                                                             Psalm 6:2

Dearly beloved in Christ,

I greet you in the sweet name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

We all want to live a healthy life. We take so many measures to achieve it. We try to know the way to good health and adopt it in life. Dieting has been advised and we restrict our diet or add items to it to make it suit our body. We learn ways of doing exercises to keep our body fit. We make it a daily routine and practice them. We give importance to such physical approach which prove useless as said in 1 Tim. 4:8, “For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”

One of the attributes of our Lord God is healing. This healing does not pertain to our physique alone. It can happen in other areas of life too. This healing touch of the Lord can transform anything and everything. It can work on water, trees, air, or sand. The Israelites who were delivered from the clutches of the Egyptians were wandering in the wilderness without water. At last, they came to Marah, where there was water but it was bitter (Ex. 15:22-23). They could not drink it. Dear child of God, you may also be in such a state after having been redeemed. You may encounter problems and be disenchanted by what happens around. Do not be dismayed. First, they had no water; now they had water but it was not drinkable. But Moses cried to the Lord and the Lord showed him a tree. When a part of it was put into the water, it became tasty. Dear Brother/ sister, has your life become bitter? Bitter water was transformed into sweet water. It was healed. Just come to the tree of the cross and understand what it can do in your life. It can transform your life too. All the feelings of the wilderness surrounding you with lack of anything to satisfy your thirst will vanish. You would have happiness and exaltation. He knows your needs and your thirst in this wilderness and He has the power to transform it. He can heal any situation. He has said, “For I am the Lord who heals you.”

I  THINGS TO BE HEALED

1. Bruises of His People

“...in the day that the Lord binds up the bruise of His people and heals the stroke of their wound.” Isaiah 30:26

Whatever be the bruises you have, in the body or your soul, the Lord God will heal you. He can do it right now. Once I ministered in the region of Pune. Bro. Noel accompanied me in the ministry as he had arranged it. I was staying in his house and ministering around. One day we completed the night meeting and we were returning by M 80 bike. On the way it got punctured and so we could not ride on it. He said that he knew a friend residing in that area and so could leave the vehicle there in his house and go by an auto-rickshaw. We took the bike there. He opened the house with a smiling face and welcomed us into his house. He thought that I was a Christian sanyasi and took a photo with me. Bro. Noel was working with him in a factory. In that factory Bro. Noel was the Secretary of the Trade Union and this friend was the Treasurer. After he accepted Jesus Christ in his life, Bro. Noel had resigned from the post of the Secretary and spent his time in meditating on the Word of God and in prayer. His friend was one of those who were astonished at the transformation that happened in his life. He gave us tea to drink. He asked me the question whether Jesus Christ would heal everybody. I told him that all those who believed in Jesus Christ and made their requests to Him would get healed and that He would do that immediately. This man was a devout Hindu. His younger daughter was suffering from a nagging pain in the heels because of a foot corn. The treatments given did not help her. The doctors had advised surgery to remove the corn in the heel. He told me about that. I told him that if only he believed the Lord Jesus Christ, He would heal her. He said that he believed in Him. Then I prayed for him. I had a vision and therefore I stopped praying and told him what I saw in the vision. I saw him setting fire to certain huts, along with another person. Then he confessed that it was his habit to set fire to hutments in his area. Then he admitted that it was a wicked act. I asked him to pray to Jesus Christ for forgiveness. He did the same and I continued the prayer. On the third day, she was healed.

Jesus Christ will heal the hurt caused by the words of reproach and abuse, and bless you. He can heal any bruises in the heart and make you have peace and joy.

2. Infirmities

“And that very hour He cured many of infirmities, afflictions, and evil spirits; and to many blind He gave sight.” Luke 7:21

The Lord Jesus Christ can heal any disease of the body. The Bible says, “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” (Matt. 8:17). Yes, on the cross he bore all our sicknesses in the body for our sake to give us a new life of health. Today the Lord will heal you whatever be the cause of your sickness. The cause may be your own sins, or the devil or curse or natural calamity or for the sake of the glory of the Lord. He will give you a new life of blessings.

Are you worried about your disease? It might be a chronic disease. The Lord will heal and bless you. He will strengthen you. He will see your tears and hear your prayers. He will come near you as you thank and praise Him. Confess your sins so that they may not stand against you. Decide to give them up. He will heal you and gird you with strength.

3. Backslidings

“Return, you backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings...” Jeremiah 3:22

We should have lived a happy and exalted life according to the design of the Lord. But we lost it because of our acts of wickedness. Do we strive for godliness? Instead of exercising “yourself toward godliness”, do you spend time in “profane and old wives’ fable”? (1 Tim 4:7). We should keep ourselves away from those practices. We should also avoid wicked false teachers. As the words come from the heart, we do what we speak. So, it is better to avoid gossip regarding others. This will lead to backsliding.

Today we read so much about evil deeds of people reported in newspapers. For committing such crimes, they spend a lot of money and energy. Some ministers of the Lord too misdirect and give wrong guidance to people in the name of visions. Instead of cautioning people regarding their sins and wicked deeds in order to deliver them from their captivity they encourage people living in sin. People remain in their sins and are happy fulfilling their lusts and desires. They have no fear of the Lord. They are not ready to accept the caution of the Lord not to sin anymore. The Bible says, “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting” (Rom. 1:28). But the Lord wants to bring such backslidden people back into His fold. He wants to heal their life.

Once I met a person who complained that his thought process had been affected and that he was unable to come out of the evil thoughts which stimulated him to do evil deeds. He was under the grip of evil lusts which had sway over him. He wanted deliverance from that condition. He was married and was living with his wife and children. The Lord had mercy on him and the Spirit of the Lord delivered and transformed him.

4. The Spirit

as well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed.” Luke 6:18

We can discern the evil spirits operating behind the evil acts of people. Our spirit gets broken and the evil spirit dominates over feelings, thoughts, and deeds. The Bible says, “Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad.” (Prov. 12:25). “A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.” (Prov. 15:13). “Behold, My servants shall sing for joy of heart, but you shall cry for sorrow of heart, and wail for grief of spirit.” (Isaiah 65:14). Psalm 38:8 says, “I am feeble and severely broken; I groan because of the turmoil of my heart.” Evil spirits create fear, weakness, depression, sorrows and bitterness. Because of their attack some lose their health and spend their time in vain things. They keep daydreaming in loneliness. Evil spirits operate behind this.

Once a young man came for prayer at the end of a meeting. I enquired him whether he would spend time in daydreaming. He replied that he would. The Holy Spirit revealed that to me. I told him what he dreamed. He used to think of himself dressed in white full-hand shirt riding a motor bike with rings in his fingers. This figure paved the way for haughtiness and other evil thoughts. He would not be able to think of the Lord God or praise Him. So, we should be diligent and vigilant with clarity of thought. In Luke 8:35, we read about demons leaving a man who was harming himself and how he was transformed: “Then they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.”

The Prodigal son who went away from his father began to be in want. He was in hunger. Then he came to his senses and realized his sin against his father. There was plenty at home and the servants of his family were well fed. So, he decided to return home. The king Nebuchadnezzar who was in the wilderness in midst of the beasts came to his senses when he looked at the sky and realized the power of the Lord. He began to praise the Lord. Then he regained his lost glory and was placed as king.

Dear child of God, the Lord Jesus Christ came to destroy the works of the devil in you. He would deliver you from the clutches of the devil. This brings about healing in your spirit. Acts 10:38 says, “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”

5. The Soul

“I said, “Lord, be merciful to me; heal my soul...”’ Psalm 41:4

Jesus Christ is the lover of the soul. He is the redeemer of the soul which is eternal. He will bless it. The Bible says, “Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine; the soul who sins shall die.” (Ezek. 18:4). “The law of the Lord is perfect converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple” (Psalm 19:7). “Also it is not good for a soul to be without knowledge ...” ((Prov. 19:2). The Bible warns, “And take heed, lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the Lord your God has given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage.” (Deut. 4:19). “That he should continue to live eternally, and not see the pit.” (Psalm 49:9). When we seek Him diligently, we will find Him. He gives strength in the soul and makes us bold. He will guide you in all situations. Thus, when we are strengthened in Christ, we are emboldened to praise and declare in all circumstances. Today He will strengthen the soul that has lost it. Thus, He heals the soul.

II BLESSINGS OF HEALING

1. Delivered from Destruction

“He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” Psalm 107:20

Destruction comes upon us at a time when we never expect it. It is the design of Satan to annihilate us (John 10:10). The day we are healed, we start to grow in trusting Him. Hitherto we were under sin. Now we are under the dominion of Christ because of His word.   He delivers us from the power of destruction. This happens when we are healed by His Word.

2. Comfort Restored

“I have seen his ways, and will heal him; I will also lead him, and restore comforts to him and to his mourners.” Isaiah 57:18

When He heals us, He also restores our peace. Today there are so many people without peace. Because of depression they take wrong decision to end their lives. The Lord heals all those who have lost something they treasured, those who face defeat and failure, those who struggle financially and those who are weak physically. There is restoration of relationship when we are healed as in the case of the Prodigal son coming back to his father. Divided families, come together. Thus, peace is restored.

3. Blessing of Families

“for the Lord had closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife.” Genesis 20:18

When the Lord heals, closed wombs open. In the family of Abimelech, the Lord had closed the wombs. Abraham prayed for them, the Lord heard his prayer and healed their wombs. They could give birth to children. There are several families languishing and shedding tears for want of children. The Lord who created the whole universe instructed Adam and Eve to multiply and fill the earth. As we are healed in the body, soul and spirit, we have the blessings of descendants. The Lord promised Abraham in his old age. He fulfilled it in spite of his age. The Lord blesses families according to His word by healing us by His grace.

4. Peace and Truth Revealed

“Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.” Jeremiah 33:6

When the Lord heals, he reveals peace and truth. These fill our new life of health. This peace is needed in one’s private, family and social life in all situations. This abounds when the Lord Jesus Christ heals you as He is the Prince of Peace. It continues in the life of children as well. He will guide you in the way of peace. He will make you dwell in peaceful places of rest to remain undisturbed. As you know the Truth, it will set you free, and knowing it you will be worthy to receive eternal life. To know Jesus Christ who is Truth is life eternal.

III WHO GETS HEALED

1. Those Who Pray

“... I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.” 2 Kings 20:5

King Hezekiah was sick and the Lord sent Prophet Isaiah to inform him of his death and to instruct him to set his house in order. On hearing that, he prayed weeping to the Lord to remember how he walked before Him in truth and with a loyal heart and had done what was good in His sight. The Lord heard his prayer and healed him and extended his life by fifteen years.

Dear Brother/ Sister, the Lord who can extend your life is alive even today. He bore all your diseases on the cross. He will extend your life healing you from the terrible disease which made others forsake you. He will satisfy you. Jesus Christ is the Lord who heals.

2. Those Who Come to Jesus Christ

Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.” Matthew 9:2

When we commit our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ, He heals us. Coming to Jesus means giving up the life of sin and iniquity and transgression and turning to Him. Then He will heal you and transform you.

Dear Brother/ sister, if you decide to come to Jesus Christ who heals your body, soul and spirit, He will transform you into a holy person and lead you in His way and bless you.

3. Those Whose Iniquities are Forgiven

“Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases.” Psalm 103:3

In the lives of many people, the power of the Lord to heal them could not work because of their sins and iniquities. They stand as a wall between them and the Lord. But the Lord Jesus Christ who loves us so much has already borne our sins and transgressions on the cross for our sake. Without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. He was crucified for our sake on the cross for us to lead a happy life. He was bruised for our sins.

Dear Brother/ Sister, He who knew no sin did not sin, but was against sin. He loves the sinner and is faithful to forgive the sinner when he truly turns to Him. When we thus turn to Him and confess our sins, He is merciful to pardon us and would do a miracle. The Bible says, “He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy” (Proverbs 28:13). You will have mercy and experience healing. The Lord calls us to Him to give us rest (Matt. 11:28). If only you would come to Him, He will transform you through His word and heal you. By His stripes we are healed. He has already done it on the cross. Let us be cleansed and healed by His love.

4. Those Who are Broken-hearted

“He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3

The Lord Jesus Christ can discern our hearts. Man can see only the face. But the Lord can see the condition of our hearts. He can read the thoughts and desires of our hearts. He can see the broken hearts. He will not forsake you. He will come near you seeing your contrite heart and redeem you. The Bible says, “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” (Psalm 34:18). “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart—These, O God, you will not despise.” (Psalm 51:17). “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3).

In your life you may be suffering because of a horrible disease or oppressing situation where no one can help you. You may be under the dominion of an oppressing disease and you may be under the pangs of death. The Lord Jesus Christ loves you even now, and is ready to help you. He will not forsake you. He will protect you as the apple of the eye. He wants to heal you. Would you come to Him with faith in Him? Would you surrender yourself before Him? Commit your life before Him. He will heal you and bless you.

May the Lord bless us!

In the service of Christ Jesus,

Bro. C. Ebenezer Paul.
